Wenchy idly noticed Veero trying to escape O-Man’s bowling pins as he threw them at her. “Yes, especially among the SBS set — smart but shy. It’s perfectly normal,” Wenchy assured her. “SBS boys develop crushes on teachers, friends’ moms, movie stars, comic book characters, anime` characters, anyone but girls! When was the last time he had a girlfriend?”
Mrs. Wilson replied, “There was a girl in seventh grade…”
“That’s a while ago.”
“Yes,” she said. “I think he took it too hard. Last year I think it was, he told me, ‘It’s not so much that I’m not interested in girls, but more like they’re not interested in me.’”
Wenchy smiled, and the minute hand of the wall clock spun as the two women shared their insights and their concern over Brandon.
Mrs. Wilson realized that she had a meeting coming up, but before she went, she mentioned that it would be good idea if Brandon had some help in social interaction and dating. “It probably wouldn’t be a good idea for you to do that, would it?” she asked.
Wenchy replied, “No, you’re right. That’s highly unrecommended!” They both laughed. “But, we have a work-share arrangement with the Young Men’s School for Propriety and Social Interaction (YMSPSI), and they offer classes for young men in his situation. I can send the information home with Brandon. All the usual rules apply, of course.”
“Of course. I’ll be looking forward to it.”
They wrapped up the conversation and when Wenchy put the phone down she jumped up in the air and spun around three times before letting loose a victorious “Whoo yeah! Two-five-seven!” The numbers echoed back to her from other parts of the building and she fell back down in the seat, awash in triumph.
